Among painful but very much needed experiences regarding our daily and vocational life of the last decade, the spotlight is put on how we understand the Capricorn's essence and its teachings for us.
Scandals are exposed directly before our eyes. These events tear us out from minding our own businesses with the purpose of showing us the depth and importance of life's social side.
Time for one of these events - the Hong Kong protests. How is it to fight with seemingly unstoppable hostile adversities?
Enjoy the reading :-)
Preludium
With Saturn's ingress into Capricorn at the end of 2017 we were able to observe a number of smaller or larger protests, including the extremely important for French "Yellow Vests Protest" that started in October 2018 and continues to this day. And yet in this text I will focus not on familiar to us, western culture-like Europe, but on distant eastern culture Asia - specifically China.
Protests in Hong Kong are ongoing and have already gone down in history as one of the largest demonstrations of the XXI century. And certainly the largest for China. Bigger even than the pro-democratic movement of 1989 when this historic photo was taken shortly after the Tiananmen Square massacre:
Here is an interesting fact: during 1989-91 Saturn, Uranus and Neptune were simultaneously in Capricorn (the last time such planetary arrangement took place at the end of the 15th century!).
Gotta love Capricorn.
Before interpreting the astro charts you must know that Hong Kong is part of the communist China, though has the status of a special district i.e. has a certain level of autonomy, broadly understood economic freedom, its own currency, flag and even an Olympic team.
How did the protests in Hong Kong start?

This is a natal chart of the extradition bill proposal (February 2019) as appeared on Hong Kong's official government website. At that moment it had no legal force, but would soon become the spark igniting all protests. The aforementioned bill would allow e.g. the detention and extradition of criminally wanted people to the mainland, the "proper" China. Many were afraid that the bill would open the possibility of unfair trials under the jurisdiction of the communist system and would also increase China's influence over Hong Kong.
Up until 1984 Hong Kong was a British colony, but according to the British-Chinese agreement the entire Hong Kong region returned to China at the end of the 13-year "lease" period. After this time (1997) the region was granted autonomy with a series of rights but only for 50 years i.e. till the end of 2047.
It can be said that the Hong Kong society looks at the Chinese government through the Plutonic glasses. Society sees where such control-like actions could lead to and tries to prevent the worst (most likely) scenario - being absorbed by communist China.
Two elements are quite striking in the "extradition law" proposal chart, the first being Venus in Capricorn. One of the Hong Kong's society first reactions could have been the fear of having limited (or even destroyed) harmony i.e. the already existing order, however bad it has been be (the presence of Capricorn suggests some inborn restriction). We can suspect that financial motives (resource turnover) were involved in establishing the bill, but I did not find any mention of such motivations in the media.
Venus with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn is also a symbol of the government, which has clearly defined views and will try to alleviate any controversy. Venus presence tells the government was trying to put on a good face and smile in the hope that all will be well. And yet such a strong Capricorn cast meant that this charm attempts were seen as empty, meaningless, casually undertaken. In the end they would be ineffective or applies too late - there is always delay, limitation or disappointment with Capricorn.
Notice Mars in Taurus; this was not a proposal that was supposed to be aggressively "promoted". However Mars is in exile, which is why one should not expect society to respond to any sudden actions. Mars has only just started to move away from the conjunction with Uranus, but we can assume that the planets are still connected. Mars-Uranus can symbolically show a willingness for subversive actions but also a lack of verve or inner will (Mars in Taurus). If something, Mars and Uranus speak off an unexpected method of carrying out an attack (slow changes giving China more and more rights until the appearance of the drop that would spill the glass).
We can safely assume that the bill's proposal was made public on the Moon in Gemini, which is why the Hong Kong region citizens processed the whole thing on the intellectual level - as information. The discussion began and Gemini (together with Aquarius, the sign of the Sun) could suggest that the conversations would continue without emotional overtones ...
... except that Mercury (ruler of Gemini) is in Pisces and is heading towards the conjunction with Neptune. This is the second striking element of the chart. This particular position of Mercury suggests: a) the information is not accurate b) information is passed down confusedly. Plainly speaking: someone exaggerates, mistakenly or intentionally bypassing some information; too much fantasy involved.
People intuitively felt that there is more to the information than the government publicly mentioned.
Beginnings
The announcements take a tangible form. On March 31 2019 the official shape of the bill is made public.

Mercury just managed to end its retrogradation in Pisces and started forming a close conjunction with Neptune. This is another symbol of vague information and feelings (Pisces) that the bill itself (the style it was formulated in) will be full of loopholes like a Swiss cheese. Such serious ventures based on the written word (like national laws) with this kind of position of Mercury are doomed to failures or at least to issues with constant corrections, situations of abuse, neglecting key pieces of information.
The Moon is in Capricorn. If you read the previous part describing euthanasia (I strongly encourage you to; it's a great introduction to the topic), you would find information on how this specific Moon position manifests and what one can expect from it. In a nutshell - society's reaction is not positive. The very close orb distance of Moon-Saturn-Pluto (even without the hour) makes me think that in the public's mind the extradition bill is about control; it's an attempt to manipulate and push unfavorable solutions for Hong Kong.
On this day we observe the very beginnings of the protests that people decided to take to the streets. At that time it is estimated that about 12k people marched together. This is quite a large number, contrary to Moon in Capricorn suggesting "low attendance". And yes, it was low attendance considering the number of protesters in the months to come.
Now another horoscope: the official reading of the bill.

The Moon is in Pisces forming a conjunction with Neptune and Mercury. In the context of all the controversies this chart showed that the debate over the bill only threw oil into the fire. People were emotionally involved and seeing that the bill could actually be a reality, they began to listen to the warning signals, uniting (Pisces) more and more.
Mars came out of the procrastination-craving Taurus and entered Gemini. Now the society's will to fight will be mostly stimulated by... information. From as many sources as possible.
Society versus the regime
A handful of information to show you the protest's extent:
- 31st March, approx. 12,000 protesters (5,200 people at the peak)
- 28th April, approx. 130,000 protesters (22,800 people at the peak)
- 9th June , around 1,03 million protesters! (270,000 people at the same time)
The protest really kicks off in June 2019.
Pluto in Capricorn symbolizes the society's fear of non-compliance with the established rules, exceeding previously set boundaries and the fear of freedom being limited - all of which this bill could do. Pluto in an earth element sign is also a symbol of the economic pressure felt by young people caused by the drastic increate of real estate and renting costs. This is a problem unknown to their parents (Capricorn). And this alone may cause troubles getting the support from older generations because it is hard to find things that both groups can relate to.
Capricorn thinks perceptively - it has experience and wisdom at its disposal, thus it is able to effectively determine the potential future. Hong Kong residents are afraid that the extradition bill would allow for gradual absorption by communist China, thereby depriving them of their freedom.
On 15th June 2019 the head of the Hong Kong administration (equivalent to the prime minister) Carrie Lam officially announced the suspension of the bill and the cessation of proceedings over it. Though without specifying a (still not excluded) date of the second reading. This strategy does not surprise anyone if we consider the patronage of Mercury in Pisces over the extradition bill - it's a smokescreen. On one hand it is a clever use of planetary energies (playing with the cards dealt) and on the other this kind of behaviour feels like challenging the intelligence (Mercury) of society.
With Saturn and Capricorn people have the need to take the subject seriously, while Pluto prompts them to truly delve into the core of the issue. Pluto hates superficiality and in Capricorn it can give people the fuel and endurance needed to explore the most bitter truths, no matter how harsh the outer circumstances are.

This is the exact moment (with the hour) that the head of the Hong Kong administration issued an official apology to the nation. Just a day after she announced the suspension of the bill.
On the one hand the public's response to such a clear government position is extremely positive, even euphoric. The Moon's conjunction with Jupiter in Sagittarius is a sudden shot of hope and a sense of achieving a huge win for the entire social group (11th house) - the residents of Hong Kong. Uniting paid off, now is a time of joy - the future will be better!
Or will it?
Moon-Jupiter square Neptune suggests emotions growing over the top. There is no better indicator of exaggerated hurray-optimism than this combination of planets. Additionally, the apology takes place during the Full Moon - it is a great moment to release everything that has accumulated. But society itself feels suspended in space and they do not like it (square).
Capricorn Ascendant tells how official the apology was. Carie Lam talks about "carrying responsibility on her shoulders". Saturn and Pluto in the 1st house tell of careful preparations - everything that was said had to be planned in advance. Then there's Mercury and Mars forming an opposition from the 7th house - a house that symbolizes "the other party", the recipient of an apology, the society.
People were pissed off (Mars). They went out into the streets and all they heard was the leader withdrawing, not referring to their demands (Mars-Saturn opposition). Protests in Hong Kong are not just about the bill, but about e.g. the release of detained protesters, the investigation of the bill itself, the dismissal of Carie Lam. Protesters feel that they have not been heard (Mercury) even plainly ignored and not treated with dignity at all (opposition to Saturn). The appearance of the opposition aspect between the planets in Capricorn and those in Cancer literally manifested as two sides on opposite sides of the barricade, both unsatisfied.
David strikes the Goliath
In July and August 2019 various incidents take place e.g. brutal police-protester skirmishes, assaults on the police stations, use of tear gas in the main residential part of the city, police monitoring the protesters (who managed to catch alleged infiltrators), closing of an airport for several days and strikes of many professional groups.
At the end of September 2019, Carrie Lam gave a private speech to Hong Kong businessmen. As it turned out later a recording leaked from this meeting. A transcription5 was published by the Reuters news agency on September 3 2019.
The recording shows a much warmer (human) image of Carrie Lam than we could draw from official sources. A quote: "if I had a choice, the first thing I would do would leave [my position]". Interestingly Carrie Lam would later officially deny even considering resigning. Saturn in Capricorn is a symbol of being tightly bound with a work position/field, although the reasons for it can vary: from the desire to have benefits, egoism to the impossibility of resigning because of the carried responsibility.

With the Moon in Scorpio happening we like to read about secrets or intrigues, behind-the-scenes activities. The heavily emphasized 4th house gives us insight into Carrie Lam's psyche and her tiredness, desire for reconciliation and fear for her own health. Carrie Lam is over 60, responsible to the people of Hong Kong and Beijing (China); it's a lot of pressure.
What interests us will happen a day later when Carrie Lam officially announces that the extradition law will be withdrawn. A serious victory. However, the Moon is in Scorpio, which is why the society's reaction is extreme, uncompromising: everything or nothing i.e. all demands (investigation, dismissal, etc.) must be fulfilled. Otherwise the protest shall continue.
And so they had.
Pluto in Capricorn
If the protests took place anywhere other than Hong Kong, they would be quickly suppressed. The extent to which China controls its citizens can be demonstrated, for example, by the existence of a social trust system i.e. giving (or not) money credits based on one's "good citizen score" (in accordance with the communist China standards). There's also a well-developed facial recognition system that perfectly track and monitors all (including social) human activity and offenses. We are observing a fight between Hong Kong's citizens and the Chinese regime - a system designed for total domination. Thanks to the situation in Hong Kong we can observe the extreme manifestation of Pluto in Capricorn - a state system fully oriented towards control. Pluto is a symbol of the struggle for survival - the conditions are very unfavorable because one has to fight with the system, in the system, based on the system's rules (Pluto is in Capricorn).
We see an example of a confident Capricorn who feels very safe and knows perfectly well what it can afford to do. At one point in Hong Kong's outskirts huge military forces (tanks) appeared - the authorities said that it had nothing to do with protests. That "these are just exercises!" Pluto in Capricorn is a symbol of manipulating with e.g. tangible things like money, sanctions or armed interventions because nothing appeals to people's senses like cannons aimed right at them.
Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn show how slowly but surely China has gained control and is now breaking coupons from many years of hard work on growing their power. This is a symbol of how firm and confident the authorities can become, despite such a huge wave of protests.
Ultimately China will probably do what it always does, destroy the opposition. Otherwise, their authoritative power is being questioned - this is one of Pluto's main fears in Capricorn.
What about international support?
Hong Kong is the doorway to the heart of China; many companies want this piece of cake that is the Chinese market. To do so one must first go through Hong Kong. Companies and countries are forced to maintain good relationships with the government; doing the opposite might damage potential profits (Capricorn). Pluto in Capricorn, manifesting through China, symbolizes long-term economic investment around the world. Nobody wants to mess up with China. For this reason only few officials allow themselves to protest against oppression. And that is why we have censorship coming from the business world (Pluto in Capricorn). To appeal to Asian markets, companies advertise/produce products already tailored to the Chinese market. The film industry is a great example - for a film to enter China it must feature a Chinese actor, at least one scene has to be filmed in China etc.
With Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn (Earth element sign), we can see how consumers lose quality due to the censorship.
